Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has admitted he’s been left with a bad taste in his mouth as they lost ground in the race for the top four to Aston Villa.

The full-back has been speaking to Telemundo in Argentina about life at Tottenham and their first season under Ange Postecoglou.

The Spanish defender has been a key player for Tottenham again this season in what has been a year of revival under the Australian manager.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the table after 33 games of the season, seven points behind Aston Villa but with two games in hand over them.

They had appeared to be on course to finish comfortably in the top four after a strong start to the season.

They’ve slowly fallen behind Aston Villa, though, who have powered ahead while Tottenham have slipped up, with recent defeats to Fulham and Newcastle coupled with a 1-1 draw against West Ham seeing Spurs drop points.

That’s led to some frustration among the fanbase, and it seems it’s the same sentiment in the squad, at least if Porro is to be believed.

“You’re left with a bad taste in your mouth, because there have been games where we’ve done the work we’ve been training for and things haven’t worked out for us,” he said.

“It leaves a bit of a bad taste, but I’d rather look at the fact that they have seven points more than us.

“They will have looked at the details, or rather the little details, and I think that’s what really puts you there tomorrow or not.

“(There’s) also bad luck, because after all, if I remember correctly, the West Ham game at home they shot from outside the box, it bounced to Cuti, bounced again and stayed for the striker to push it in. Then also Destiny didn’t see that the striker was in that game.

“These are things that can’t happen to me at Newcastle as well. I didn’t see that the striker was there, but well, these are things that football can give you, because when I shot, I think it bounced off two defenders, Micky scored, and it was offside.

“I don’t know what offside is, but well, the truth is that these are football things. Not to look back or anything, but yes, well, you look at those little details and you say, well, we could be there.”
