This week, it was widely reported in Brazil that Chelsea would have an emissary at Palmeiras’ match against Independiente Del Valle in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday evening.
The Blues are claimed to be in advanced talks for the signing of Estevão, and reportedly sent an official to try to close the deal.
Estevão was a starter in the 2-0 win, and after the match, he was quizzed by ESPN Brasil about Chelsea’s interest.
“Man, I’m really happy,” he said.
“I think they’re watching because of what I do for Palmeiras. That I show results within Palmeiras. Today my mind is 100% on Palmeiras.
“And I try to help Palmeiras as much as possible on the pitch and that’s a consequence. God willing, he’ll be blessing me.”
Since the reports about Chelsea being in Brazil for Estevão, the local media hasn’t shared any update in the negotiations.
What is known is that the youngster’s transfer could cost up to €65m, considering the whole package, and Palmeiras are trying to take as much as possible up front, leaving a small share in bonuses.
Estevão is still 17 and can only move to Europe in 2025. However, it’s believed there’s a big competition for the winger, and that’s why Chelsea are doing their best to guarantee a deal with Palmeiras as soon as possible. The wonderkid is enjoying the Copa Libertadores and will surely get big experience from that.
