Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel is sending ‘winks’ to former club River Plate ahead of the summer transfer window.
That’s according to La Nacion, who say the defender is seen as a big opportunity for the club once his loan deal at Nottingham Forest comes to an end.
They explain that the Argentine side are following several of their former players at this moment and Montiel is one of them.
He’s set to return to Sevilla in the summer after a largely unsuccessful loan spell at Nottingham Forest, who have dodged having to buy him on a permanent basis.
The full back was a target for River last season, but they couldn’t get a deal done and he ended up at Nottingham Forest for the season instead.
He’s not wanted there or at Sevilla, who need sales to help balance their books, and so River Plate are in constant contact about a potential move.
So far, he’s not shown the same enthusiasm as other players but is sending ‘winks’ to the club that a deal could be possible.
It seems he’s playing his cards close to his chest for the time being, perhaps waiting to see what options are on the table in the summer before deciding anything definitively.
