Genki Haraguchi’s proposed move to Brighton and Hove Albion is progressing so slowly that it could be going backwards.

In late April and early May the German media repeatedly linked Haraguchi with a move to the Premier League, the only thing missing was a destination club.

Then, on May 22nd, Germany’s Kicker said Haraguchi was in ‘promising negotiations’ with Brighton. Et Voila!

After a disappointing season, Brighton interest was fortunate for Haraguchi, so if the club were genuinely interested, as was being claimed, then the whole thing could have sailed through.

Except it didn’t. And the reasoning came when Berliner Kurier suggested Haraguchi’s current club Hertha Berlin were hoping for a ‘good transfer fee like €6m’ from Brighton.

That was too high a fee for a player not in his best form and with only a year of contract left.

Bild have something of an update on Monday in a transfer special which looks at each Bundesliga club. The German newspaper say 26 year old Haraguchi had been leaning towards a contract extension, but his poor season scuppered that, so he can go for a good transfer fee.

Brighton are the only interested club mentioned, and a potential transfer fee is put at €3m.

That sounds more like it.
