After a little bit of speculation, it was announced on Thursday by Everton they’d managed to sign Niels Nkounkou from Marseille on a free.

The youngster decided against committing to the French club in favour of a move to England, where he will likely have to develop a bit more before making his debut at Goodison Park.

The left-back has to make do with competition from Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne for a role in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, but everyone knows the Englishman is nearing the end of his career, regardless of whether or not he signs that one-year extension.

In the meantime, Nkounkou will want to get some football under his belt, and preferably some first-team action.

That’s why we weren’t entirely surprised when perusing La Provence in France to find out Everton have plans to send him out on loan in the near future.

Looking at the transfer as a whole, the local newspaper finish off by saying the 19-year-old ‘should be quickly loaned out to the Championship’.

It’s not explained where, but we doubt he’ll be short of suitors, such is the market for talented full-backs these days.
