Everton star James Rodríguez has revealed a decision with Carlo Ancelotti is why he has been absent for the Blues last three games.

Rodríguez’s last appearance came in Everton’s win over rivals Liverpool on the 20th of February, when he assisted Richarlison’s opening goal in the 2-0 win.

He has been absent since, missing the wins over Southampton and West Bromwich Albion and the defeat to Chelsea.

As has been the case for much of this season, there has been an air of mystery to his absence, with Everton and Ancelotti refusing to provide explicit details about the Colombian star’s injury issues.

That has caused some unhappiness, particularly in his home country, where Ancelotti has come in for criticism over his handling of the player.

Rodríguez, though, has insisted there is nothing sinister or secretive going on behind the scenes, and his three-game absence was actually a mutual decision.

“I had been suffering from a lot of discomfort for many months, which prevented me from feeling well,” he told his viewers on Twitch, relayed by Futbol Red.

“So, I had to stop for a few days; I have a couple more days left.

“Soon I’ll be playing, it’s nothing serious, but I had to recover from all these problems, I had knocks and everything.

“I want to finish the season well, because everything that comes at the end of March, April and May is very complicated. The Copa America as well.

“So I want to be well, and that’s why I stopped a little bit. First is health, and I’ll be fine.”
