Everton ‘are interested’ in Coventry City star Viktor Gyökeres and are seen as serious competition for Sporting Club de Portugal, another of his suitors.

That’s according to A Bola, who cover the striker again today and insist he is ‘one of the names’ on Sporting’s list to reinforce their forward line.

The 25-year-old Sweden international was in impressive form again this season as he bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in 50 games for Coventry, playing a key role as they made it to the Play-Off final and narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

He’s now being heavily linked with a move away and Sporting have been named among his suitors for weeks, with them eyeing up a €17m deal.

That’s the figure they are ‘willing to pay’ for the player but Coventry want €20m, a sum Sporting are yet to offer for him.

That’s an expensive deal for them but wouldn’t be for Premier League teams and he has suitors there too, with Everton believed to be among them.

They’ve been keen since last year and are determined to add strikers to their squad this summer after issues in that area this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s persistent injury problems also mean additions are required.

A Bola confirm they are among those ‘interested’ in Gyökeres although there is no mention of whether they could afford Coventry’s asking price.

That seems unlikely given the state of Everton’s finances and the restrictions on them but perhaps a big sale, likely Amadou Onana, would open funds up and allow them to move.
