Liverpool managed to scrape through in the Champions League on Tuesday evening as they lost 1-0 to Inter Milan at Anfield. The Reds getting a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Italy was crucial for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It’s fair to say the European media weren’t impressed with the Premier League club’s performance, and that will partly because they’ve set such high standards for themselves in recent years.

L’Equipe, in typical fashion, hands out low scores, and they rated Liverpool as an average of 4.7/10. That said, Inter only got 5.6/10 themselves, but that was largely dragged down by Alexis Sanchez being given a 4 due to his red card.

The French newspaper feel the two best performers were Lautaro Martinez, who got 7, and Virgil van Dijk, who was given a 6.

The two ‘flops’ of the match were Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota, both getting 4.

L’Equipe say Mane ‘almost never managed to make a difference’, and it only became apparent Jota was on the pitch when he picked up a yellow.

Over at Gazzetta dello Sport they rate Liverpool as 6.5/10 and Inter 7.

Mane also gets criticism in Italy, with Gazzetta labelling him ‘the worst’, and rating him 5/10,
