While Flamengo don’t take any action regarding the purchase of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira, Brazilian pundits continue to claim this signing should not be made.

The 26-year-old is loaned to the Rio de Janeiro club until the summer, and following his crucial mistake in the Copa Libertadores final in December, he’s now having quite a poor season, getting constantly booed by his own fans.

The urge for him to get psychological help has been pointed out by a few journalists in the past few weeks, and his situation is now labelled as ‘torture’ by Band host Milton Neves.

“Flamengo only win with the whistle, and this poor guy Andreas Pereira, it’s torture what they are doing to this guy. You have to release the guy. The crowd boos, he’s expensive as hell. You have to get rid of this boy for his own good. They made a bad deal, he’s expensive as hell,” said Milton Neves (via Torcedores).

Meanwhile, on UOL, journalist Renato Maurício Prado points out Flamengo should wait until June and then take a decision on the permanent move from Manchester United.

“If I were to sign Andreas Pereira today, I wouldn’t sign him now. It’s a huge amount of money, I think it’s the wrong time to sign him and Flamengo still have him on loan until the middle of the year. I didn’t understand why this rush to solve the Andreas Pereira issue, especially in a situation where the guy is so pressured by the mistake.

“I would not sign him now, I would keep him until the middle of the year and analyse how he’s going to react because he’s reacting very badly. His little head is in the clouds, he just wasn’t sent off in the last game because the referee didn’t want to, because he tried to elbow the opponent and then delivered another goal again.”

Pereira’s loan at Flamengo includes a buying option worth €20m. However, it’s been widely reported that the Brazilian club reached a deal with Manchester United for the transfer to be done for half of that. The documents are said to be signed by the Premier League side, but following the current situation, there are those who believe the deal could be called off.
