Barcelona are showing an interest in Chelsea defender César Azpilicueta, according to claims in Spain. The Spanish club are looking to bring in a right back this summer, and the Chelsea player is an option.

Sport have today reported Azpilicueta is a target for Barcelona if they fail in their attempts to sign Arsenal youngster Héctor Bellerín. It’s been claimed Barcelona technical director Robert Fernández has already initiated surprise talks with regards to the Chelsea star, and that he’s been updated on the player’s situation.

The Catalan club are keen to address the right back situation, with Sergi Roberto set to return to his natural midfield position in the squad next season.

However, signing Azpilicueta will be a difficult task for Barcelona, and it’s very unlikely Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would sanction the move. The Spain international has been fundamental in Conte’s back three, and the Italian wouldn’t contemplate losing one of his key players this summer.

Chelsea will be defending their Premier League title and have Champions League football next season, and if Conte wants to keep Azpi it’s likely he’ll get his way.
