Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen has told the Dutch media he’s developed as a player since arriving in England. The Dutchman joined Tottenham last summer from AZ, and has struggled to find the back of the net.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Janssen was asked if this season has been a failure after being overlooked by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino more often than not.

Janssen said despite his lack of games he believes he’s come a long way as a player, helped by training with Tottenham’s quality squad. The Netherlands international values the chances Pochettino has given him, even if he’s not got the prominence he hoped for.

“I’ve grown as a player, because every day I’ve been training at a very high level and then playing in the Premier League. I still played some minutes in the league and I’ve played in the Champions League,” said the Tottenham player.

Janssen has found goals hard to come by since his move to Tottenham, and the Dutchman hasn’t been the reliable Harry Kane back-up which Pochettino was looking for.

Although there have been tentative rumours about an early exit, it would be a surprise if Janssen left Spurs this summer. Despite Janssen’s Tottenham woes, Danny Blind continued to pick him for the Dutch side.

Blind ultimately lost his job after a disastrous period in charge of the Netherlands, but Janssen remains thankful, telling de Telegraaf: “I’ve always been grateful for the trust Danny showed in me. He gave me my debut, and ten internationals. Whether I play or not, we have to qualify for the World Cup. If the coach needs me, I am ready.”
