Following his great season on loan from Manchester City with FC Twente, it was only natural that Enes Ünal would attract a lot of attention this summer.

Lazio were said to be interested by the Italian press as they looked for an alternative for Ciro Immobile, while a handful of other European clubs lie Werder Bremen, Valencia and even Monaco were there for him to consider.

However, it appears that the Turkish striker has made his decision, and he will be in fact joining a La Liga side: Villarreal.

On Wednesday, Plaza Deportiva spotted the Manchester City striker arriving at Manises airport in Valencia in order to complete the move, and he was greeted by the club’s technical secretary.

As things stand, this appears to be close to a done deal, and the word from Turkey is that Manchester City will receive €14m for the player, but have included a buy-back clause of €20m should they want to bring him back in the future.

One of the main reasons Ünal decided to leave the Etihad and join Villarreal out of all his offers was that he gets to play alongside Cédric Bakambu, whom he met when they both played for Bursaspor in Turkey.

Having signed Gabriel Jesus, and with Agüero staying, it’s a tough time for young Manchester City strikers, and it isn’t really a surprise to see both Ünal and Iheanacho reportedly closet to completing moves away.
