As reported by the Portuguese media for the past couple of weeks, Benfica are about to sign Alvaro Carreras from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
Content the fullback’s loan spell in Lisbon so far, after a difficult start, the Eagles will spend just €6m to buy him from the Red Devils.
It turns out that Manchester United don’t want to completely lose control of the player, and according to A Bola, they’ll secure a clause to buy him back.
It’s said the Red Devils will ‘stay attentive’ to Carreras’ development and are including a couple of options to bring him back to Old Trafford in the coming years.
Manchester United are expected to have a clause to buy him for a fixed amount, or have the priority when matching any offers that arrive for him.
Carreras joined the Red Devils in a move from Real Madrid back in 2020, but never made his debut for the Premier League side. He’s now having his third loan, following previous spells at Preston North End and Granada.
The Portuguese media doesn’t treat his loan at Benfica as an absolute success, but the potential shown in his few appearances for the Eagles and his price makes him a very good market opportunity.
Indeed, there had been suggestions that his performances didn’t even matter given how good the €6m deal looked, because they could hope for progress in the future.
