Currently out of Mikel Arteta’s plans, Lucas Torreira is in dire need of a new club.

Loaned to Atlético Madrid last year, the Uruguayan struggled to have the desired impact in Diego Simeone’s squad, and returned to the Emirates knowing full well his future lied elsewhere.

A handful of clubs in Italy were seen as keen in his services, but none have come forward for the time being.

That’s why his agent is working to try and get his client a new club, with AS Roma looking for a player of his ilk before the end of the transfer window.

Having failed to sign Granit Xhaka from Arsenal, who has since signed a new contract, José Mourinho’s side are looking for cheaper options, especially since Amadou Diawara doesn’t appear to want to leave the Serie A side.

Calciomercato.it explain Roma’s ‘enquiry’ for Torreira ‘has found confirmation’ by their journalists, and he ‘can arrive with the dry loan formula, preferably free’.

That would be a similar deal to the one struck last year with Atlético, meaning a simple loan with no fee and no option to buy.

However, since this is a rather easy deal to pull off, it ‘could represent the last minute solution in case other options do not materialise’.

That’s why this potential avenue ‘must be followed with extreme attention between now and August 31st’.
