Even though the Dutch media sounds confident that Arne Slot is up to the challenge of taking charge of Liverpool, it seems there isn’t the same feeling about Feyenoord players.
When coaches change clubs, there are always big rumours about players that may follow him, even though that doesn’t always happen.
Soccer News today shares some quotes from Valentijn Driessen, who on De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast, talked a little about Slot’s departure to Liverpool.
Following recent rumours that Feyenoord players Mats Wieffer, David Hancko and Lutsharel Geertruida could all follow the boss to Anfield, the pundit claims that may not be a good idea.
“You should not focus too much on the Dutch market. Mike (Verweij) also said that a few times before. There are so many players who have not succeeded, and certainly in the Premier League.”
Still, Driessen ended up claiming that there’s one of those players who could actually do a good job at Liverpool.
“I think Geertruida, because surely he can be deployed in a number of positions that might be less occupied at Liverpool.”
As Liverpool had their summer signings aligned with Jurgen Klopp’s needs for many years, there’ll undoubtedly be a big change at Anfield once the new boss arrives.
The links with Feyenoord’s stars is inevitable, but it does make sense that players from the Eredivisie’s runner-up are not all solutions for the Reds.
