While Liverpool were in dire need of a midfielder, the Reds surprised a lot of people by spending a fair chunk of money on Cody Gakpo.

The Anfield side bought the Dutch star after he had a successful World Cup with the Netherlands, and beat the likes of Manchester United to his signing.

He struggled at first, but has started finding the back of the net for Liverpool of late, including a goal in the recent 2-0 win over Newcastle.

The forward is at Liverpool to stay, and will be relied upon to face Real Madrid in the Champions League this week, but he could then head back to his home country, and more specifically to PSV.

That’s because, according to journalist Rik Elfrink, the Eredivisie side ‘wants to wave goodbye’ to their former starter ‘in their own stadium, and want to do so ‘this week’.

However, before he heads off, he will ‘first play against Real Madrid’, suggesting this trip, if approved by the Reds, would take place after Tuesday.

Voetbal International also reported the news, and explain it will take place on Thursday, as PSV host Sevilla in the Europa League.

With Liverpool’s game after that being the away trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday, it will need to be a quick one, as Jürgen Klopp will likely want his man focused on his football.
