Chelsea signed Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco in 2017 and after spending a year at Stamford Bridge, he has spent the vast majority of the remaining seasons out on loan.

In the summer of 2021, the midfielder returned to AC Milan on a two-year temporary deal with an option to buy.

His performances last campaign didn’t end up convincing Stefano Pioli and the Serie A winners were looking to cut short his loan stay at the San Siro in the summer window.

On August 30th, Gianluca Di Marzio stated the 28-year-old was set to end his relationship with Chelsea so that he can join another club on a free transfer.

This had alerted several clubs in England and France, with OGC Nice being among them.

According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 side were ‘very close’ to bringing the Frenchman to the club and the Blues were ready to let him go for nothing in order to permanently part ways with the player.

That didn’t happen, and the Chelsea man has been unable to leave the San Siro for the time being.

Bakayoko will have to continue with Milan, at least for the remainder of this year, unless someone from Belgium or Turkey, where the transfer window is still open, come up with a deal suitable for all.
