Lucas Moura could be having his final season at Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports from Brazil.

Even though the player ended up staying at Spurs despite the approaches he had in the transfer window, it’s now claimed that he should leave the club in the next summer.

UOL journalist Bruno Andrade writes that Moura plans to walk at the end of his contract in 2023, with the headline making it clear he ‘will leave’ then, as that would ‘facilitate’ the negotiations with the clubs who want him.

The player has never hidden his wish of returning to São Paulo, and according to the story, this possibility has been ‘gaining more strength’ in the past few days, even though the Brazilian club take that subject very carefully.

Journalist André Hernan is another one talking about the situation, as he claims that although Lucas Moura has an option to extend his contract with Tottenham for a season, he doesn’t plan to do it.

It’s said that with him losing space in Antonio Conte’s side, he’d like to search a new club next year.

Both reports claim that Aston Villa made an approach to sign the player, but that didn’t go further than that.

When announcing Lucas Moura’s new contract all the way back in 2019, Tottenham claimed his deal would run until 2024.

Despite this, both Bruno Andrade and André Hernan affirm the commitment is until 2023, with a player option for a one-year extension.

This, however, contradicts what Lucas Moura said in June, telling the aforementioned Hernan“The idea is to fulfil the contract. It has one more year, with the option of one more, on the part of the club. So at the end of this season now, if the club wants to extend another year, they have that option.”

Either way, if the two reports that appeared on Friday are to be believed, the Brazilian looks intent on trying to convince Tottenham to forego that option, and free himself from his deal at the club in 2023.
