Middlesbrough will be competing in a tournament in Germany this summer to celebrate 120 years of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
That’s according to Revier Sport, who cover the tournament today and the excitement already created by Middlesbrough’s inclusion.
They explain that regional league team Rot-Weiß Oberhausen have set up pre-season tournament for this summer to celebrate 120 years of existence.
The tournament is set to take place on July 12th and 13th to mark the opening of the season, with sporting director Dennis Lichtenwimmer-Conversano revealing plans in a recent interview.
“We need the right opponents. And I think I have a few exciting names in my cell phone – if they come, then it will be a real party,” he said.
Part of that interview also saw him reveal that Middlesbrough will be the first opponents of the tournament, something that’s already generating plenty of excitement.
They describe Middlesbrough as a ‘prominent opponent’ thanks to their history in England, which saw them win the league cup in 2004 and reach the semi-finals this season.
Other opponents are expected to be announced in due course but that clash with Middlesbrough is seen as the absolute highlight of the summer, which we’re sure isn’t said about Michael Carrick’s side all that often.
It all looks like a great opportunity for Middlesbrough fans to spend a couple of days in Germany.
