Following Douglas Luiz’s failed transfer from Aston Villa to Arsenal, we’re getting to see some conflicting claims from the Brazilian media regarding this move.

Earlier today, we covered a story from Goal Brasil which said that despite the agents’ efforts to complete the operation, there were objections against the signing at the Gunners.

Agent Kia Joorabchian was working directly with director Edu Gaspar to get the transfer done, but people at Arsenal were apparently against spending too much on the Aston Villa player.

Now as UOL columnist Perrone talks about the transfer, he brings a slightly different information, claiming Steven Gerrard’s side are actually taking the risk of losing Douglas Luiz for free.

It’s claimed that Arsenal got to make a £25m bid for the midfielder, and Aston Villa turned it down, which came a little before the transfer window closed.

It’s said the Villans even tried to renew Douglas Luiz’s contract with the club before that, and were unsuccessful.

So even with the knowledge that he could walk for free at the end of the season, they still blocked the transfer, and now risk losing him soon.
