Turkish side Göztepe have entered the battle for Southampton striker Paul Onuachu and are ready to rival Trabzonspor for his signature.
That’s according to NTV Spor, who say the striker could have more than one option on the table this summer after his loan spell in the Super Lig.
Onuachu has been on loan with Trabzonspor since the summer after leaving Southampton following their relegation and his miserable short stint at the club after arriving in January.
He’s made a positive impression in Turkey and Trabzonspor are keen to sign him again, although their president’s comments on the matter yesterday suggested he was somehow shocked by Southampton wanting money for a transfer.
They could now face competition, though, as Göztepe are eyeing up a move after securing their promotion to the top flight.
NTV Spor explain that they are ‘preparing to make a big bombshell’ on the market in Turkey by securing Onuachu from Southampton and ahead of Trabzonspor.
The big advantage they have is that they are owned by Sport Republic, who also own the Saints, and so there is a belief a deal could be done between the various parties that would suit everyone and make it possible.
The big question is whether Onuachu would want the move, although the outlet insist he wants to stay in Turkey after his loan spell there this year.
