On July 25th, The Athletic reported Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo would arrive in England on Monday and hold talks with the Red Devils over his future.

The forward has not been part of the English club’s pre-season tour, and has been training individually.

For the past few days, Atlético Madrid have been pushed forward as one of the options for the Manchester United star.

AS have backed up The Athletic’s report and they give their own take on the 37-year-old’s case.

They state the player travelled to Manchester along with his agent, Jorge Mendes, and the two will try to convince the Premier League side to ‘facilitate his departure’.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has already held talks with the ex-Real Madrid star and explained his project. The Portugal international was not convinced with the ex-Ajax coach’s ideas.

It’s said Diego Simeone’s side, and returning to La Liga, is the option that ‘most seduces’ the player. AS add Los Rojiblancos are ‘currently the best placed’ team to sign him.

Spanish journalist Pedro Morata told El Partidazo de COPE that Atlético have ‘achieved the financial balance’ they needed for the summer transfer window.

For the Spanish club to sign Ronaldo, they will have to release some of their own players. According to the journalist, Antoine Griezmann and Álvaro Morata are the ones chosen to be sold this summer.

Another journalist, Toño Garcia, told Cadena Ser’s El Larguero the Manchester United star doesn’t mind playing for Atlético, despite his past connection with Real Madrid. He states Simeone’s side is a ‘reality’, meaning they are an option for Ronaldo to leave the Red Devils.

His ‘obsession’ is to play in the Champions League and it can be achieved if he arrives at the Metropolitano. Garcia adds Ronaldo doesn’t want to continue at Manchester United or return to Portugal.
