Cristiano Ronaldo ‘has chosen’ to move to Bayern Munich this summer, with Jorge Mendes working on a deal to take him to Bavaria from Manchester United.

That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say comments from Manchester United and Bayern are part of a ‘media strategy’.

They report that Mendes has been working ‘under the radar’ with Bayern on a deal for Ronaldo, who wants to leave Manchester United and continue playing in the Champions League.

The German giants reportedly see Ronaldo as the replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who has not given up on a potential move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have made a new offer for the Polish superstar, and Lewandowski is ‘pressing’ the Bavarians to close a deal quickly.

Should he depart, Bayern would need a replacement, and Ronaldo’s name has ‘convinced’ the club’s board as other options, notably Erling Haaland, have ‘faded’.

Ronaldo wants to play for a club in the Champions League and thus is seeking a move away from Manchester United this summer.

Super-agent Mendes is ‘weaving the web’, and the recent meeting with Barcelona was a step in that direction.

What is needed is for the Catalans to buy Lewandowski, thus opening the door to Ronaldo. Otherwise, he will find the ‘German door barred’ this summer.

Now, we would advise that anything Ronaldo related is taken with a pinch of salt for the time being, with Mendes clearly at work. It’s undeniable he will want to work up the media and try to create a market that perhaps isn’t there for Ronaldo.

A move to Bayern would make sense for the player but not for the club, who would be replacing a 33-year-old striker with a 37-year-old striker.

Perhaps if they can sign Ronaldo short-term before then moving for a long-term striker, the deal makes sense, but that would require the Portuguese superstar accepting a short-term deal, something which is hard to imagine.

It’s fair to say the whole situation is fast becoming a circus, and Bayern are somehow involved, even if everyone involved is denying it publicly.
