It seems Manchester United’s strong pursuit for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong could finally have an exciting update.

According to AS journalist Manu Sainz, the player’s agent is currently in London to have a meeting with the Red Devils.

Despite recent reports claiming Chelsea entered the competition for De Jong, the story claims Manchester United have a little advantage in the battle for him.

It’s said even though the Blues want the 25-year-old, the player ‘prefers the option of going to Old Trafford’, since there he could meet his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

The interesting thing here is that after making all those claims in a single tweet, he quotes the tweet pointing out that the De Jong’s first option is staying at Barcelona. So it’s once again made clear that he’s only moving because his club need him to.

Reports from the Catalan media today said Barça demand €80m for De Jong. And with Chelsea entering the competition, the Camp Nou side were expecting Manchester United to return stronger for him. So perhaps that’s what’s happening right now.
