Back in 2018, we covered an article in L’Equipe explaining that Brighton & Hove Albion had made a move for a young midfielder in Ligue 1.
His name was Ibrahim Sangaré, who plays for Toulouse, and it was claimed the Seagulls had gone as far as making a €12m offer for the now 22-year-old.
Fast forward a year and a half later, the defensive midfielder is still at the French club, although that isn’t expected to continue beyond next summer.
Toulouse are currently rock bottom of Ligue 1 and strong favourites to get relegated, and with Sangaré’s contract expiring in 2021, a sale is likely to happen while his stock is still high.
The website write that ‘Brighton, also interested by the Ivory Coast international (U23), have already offered Toulouse €20m’.
That’s quite an increase on the €12m from nearly two years ago, and while it isn’t explained when said bid was made, the wording suggests it’s still on the table.
It will now be up to Olivier Sadran, the French club’s president, to decide what to do in the summer, but if Brighton have indeed put that amount in for the young midfielder, then that should set the bar for other clubs who want to follow.
