Losing Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, Everton brought in Jean-Philippe Gbamin to replace him.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, the Ivory Coast international’s season has been plagued by long-term injuries, meaning he’s only managed 135 minutes of football spread over two appearances this season.
While there is still every chance the 24-year-old comes back and repays the £22.5m Everton spent on him in August, there’s also the possibility he might struggle, meaning a new defensive midfielder will be needed.
That’s why the French club have once again turned their attention to Toulouse’s Ibrahim Sangaré, one of the few highlights in a team that is otherwise bereft of confidence as they sit rock bottom in Ligue 1.
According to Sportmania.ci, ‘a few European clubs’ including Marseille and Everton ‘appreciate’ what the 22-year-old has to offer.
It’s pointed out Carlo Ancelotti’s side tried to sign him (back when Marco Silva was still in charge) in vain last summer, but there’s a better chance of getting him once the current campaign is over if (or more likely when) Toulouse get relegated.
At that point, he’ll have one year left on his contract, and it’s stated a move to Goodison Park could see him ‘quadruple’ his current wages.
The headline on Sportmania.ci does say the player is ‘expected’ at Everton, but we’ll have to wait and see about that, as the article itself isn’t as confident, especially with teams like Marseille circling, as they’ll also (most likely) have Champions League football to offer.
