With Inter Milan not making significant moves to keep Romelu Lukaku at the club this summer, it seems there’s another way the Chelsea striker could stay in the city.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, AC Milan could now step in to sign the Blues’ forward. It’s said this possibility ‘seemed like only a suggestion’ that is taking ‘more consistency’.

The website claims that in the past few hours, there’s been a meeting between the Rossoneri and Lukaku’s entourage.

It’s highlighted that Milan have an ‘excellent relationship’ with Chelsea, and that could help them beat Inter Milan, despite the striker’s wish to remain with the Nerazzurri.

What seems to be key for a deal is Lukaku accepting a drop in his salary, as that would allow the Rossoneri to ‘try to close’ the deal.

The parties are said to be working to ‘understand the terms’ of the operation, with a report from Gazzetta dello Sport this morning claiming that Chelsea could sell for as little as €40m (and Milan matching that with the Tonali sale money), such is their desire to get the player off the books.

It now all depends on how desperate Lukaku is to leave the Blues, as going from one side of Milan to the other in the space of a season might not do him any favours with the Nerazzurri fans
