Chelsea are waiting to see what happens between David Alaba and Bayern Munich before making a move for the defender.

That’s according to Marca, who say Frank Lampard’s side are seen as ‘enemies’ by Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Alaba is out of contract with Bayern at the end of the season, and so far there has been no progress towards him signing a new deal at the club.

Indeed, reports this week indicated that the two parties are as far away from an agreement as they have ever been and Bayern are now fully expecting him to leave on a free transfer next summer.

That’s led his agent Pini Zahavi to shop the player around Europe and the three most likely destinations at this point are Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

Marca look at the situation from a Madrid standpoint today and say that those in charge of the club are looking at the player ‘more closely’ every single day.

They, though, are clear that they will not make a move until the player is free to negotiate with other clubs, which would be January 1st.

That is a stance that both PSG and Chelsea have also adopted, with it explained that all three are ‘waiting to see what happens’ before approaching the defender and making a proposal.

Alaba, for his part, is keen to move to Spain and has made that clear on more than one occasion but with Barcelona’s financial struggles Madrid are his only real option given he is looking for €10m a season in wages alone.

This is something his ‘environment’ have passed on to Madrid, who are ‘studying and assessing’ the possibility of signing him.

They know they are in a ‘race’ for his signature, though, with Chelsea and PSG seen as ‘enemies’ and Zahavi ‘encouraging’ the teams to battle it out.
