Tottenham Hotspur’s great form in the Premier League continues to draw praise from the Portuguese media.

The press from José Mourinho’s homeland became pretty used to seeing him being successful in several countries, but his job at Spurs is now seen as something completely different from the others.

Outlet Record, the biggest sports newspaper in Portugal, has a section called ‘the thinkers club’ for opinion pieces. Writer Joaquim Jorge writes a story for them which is simply headlined ‘Tottenham’.

Joaquim Jorge starts by revealing that he’s always had some affection for Spurs, and then praises the manager for bringing them to a new level.

“Tottenham has always been a team that has fascinated me since the days of Ardiles and Ricardo Villa, two Argentines in English football who added a certain fragrance to physical strength,” he says.

“Mourinho’s stop after leaving Manchester United did him good to fix his head and reinvent himself. It isn’t easy to stay on top for so many years. Tottenham is a title thirsty club, Mourinho is calmer, transmits serenity and knows what he’s doing. He changed his technical team that has other ideas and is also thirsty to achieve beautiful things.”

Then he gives some special praise to the way the team is playing, claiming that the manager found a great place which could have the same impact as the biggest glories in his career.

“Tottenham are different and more efficient, there are those who do not like their style without possession of the ball, but lethal on the counterattack, however the results are obvious, a team with personality and a fast and reliable machine.

“Tottenham may well become a successful club for Mourinho, after Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

“Mourinho is back and benefits Tottenham.”

Tottenham’s next game in the Premier League will be played against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Then they go to Anfield to play Liverpool and perhaps get some clear advantage from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
