On June 19th, we relayed news from France that Borussia Dortmund’s Soumaïla Coulibaly is in advanced negotiations with Burnley over a move to Turf Moor in the summer window.

The Clarets seem to have made firm progress in their efforts to sign the 19-year-old, according to L’Equipe.

They explain that Burnley have ‘reached an agreement’ with the Bundesliga side for the defender’s transfer.

It’s claimed the centre-back will join Vincent Kompany’s side on a loan deal with a €15m purchase option.

The report states the deal will be ‘almost mandatory’, indicating the conditions needed to make his stay at Burnley permanent are likely to be fulfilled during the course of next season.

Burnley were promoted back to the top flight and L’Equipe say Coulibaly will ‘try to launch’ his career in the Premier League after his struggles at BVB.

Since joining the Bundesliga side in 2021, the teenager has been restricted to only two senior appearances and this was partly due to multiple injuries he suffered.

L’Equipe’s claim of an agreement between Burnley and Dortmund for Coulibaly’s loan move is backed up by TuttoMercatoWeb.
