West Ham United have set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

On June 28th, Kicker reported David Moyes’ side are a ‘hot candidate’ to sign the centre-back, who has a €18m release clause valid until July 10th.

Saturday’s Rheinische Post mentions West Ham wanting the 27-year-old when explaining the players who could leave the Bundesliga side in this window.

Regarding Tah, it’s claimed his desire to make a switch to the Premier League has ‘long been documented’. The newspaper states ‘West Ham in particular’ are keen to secure his services.

Rheinische Post also state the €18m release clause which is valid until early next week. Even if this isn’t triggered, they state it’s ‘conceivable’ for the Germany international to change clubs before the window closes.

In that case, the Europa Conference League winners [or another club] have to negotiate a deal with the German club.

West Ham appointed former Bayer Leverkusen sports coordinator Tim Steidten as their new technical director earlier this month.

Steidten could help the Premier League side in negotiating a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Tah, should they not trigger his clause in the next few days.

Tah made 47 appearances last season.
