For those who want to see Julen Lopetegui in charge of West Ham United next season, the Italian media is today sharing some exciting news.

The Hammers were believed to be in a race against AC Milan for the manager, with the Serie A giants having the advantage as far as the Italian reports were concerned.

TuttoMercatoWeb brings a piece recalling there was an agreement between the Rossoneri and Lopetegui, and both parties were moving forwards to close the negotiation.

However, it’s claimed that AC Milan fans want a bigger name, such as Antonio Conte, and have been making their feelings crystal clear. That’s why there’s been a ‘sharp slowdown’ in the talks in the ‘last few hours’.

TMW explain the situation is on stand-by while the Rossoneri try to figure out whether to please their fans or carry on with the pursuit.

West Ham’s attempt is recalled by TuttoMercatoWeb, with the outlet claiming the London side offered Lopetegui a two-year contract.

The manager had reportedly given Milan his priority ahead of the Hammers. Now we wonder if he’ll keep that promise, knowing that they’re considering someone else for the job and that large sections of the fanbase don’t want him.

That fanbase even managed to get #Nopetegui trending.

Maybe this is a golden chance for West Ham to go and get him.
