Despite being left out of Bristol City’s team for most of February, right-back Pedro Pereira made a comeback last weekend, opening the scoring in the 1-1 draw against Millwall.
His goal for the Robins is the reason Portuguese newspaper Record today features an interview with him, as they talk about how his loan spell in the Championship has been going so far, and manage to drag Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes into the topics.
“It is always a special feeling. That is what we work for. It is moments like this that give us confidence to continue working,” Pedro Pereira told Record.
“Bristol City’s goal is to go up. That was the project that was proposed to me and for which we have been working. At this point we are far from the first places and the goal is to reach the playoff access places as quickly as possible.”
Pedro Pereira is currently loaned by Benfica to Bristol City until the end of the season. The Championship side have an option to buy him until then, and the player claims to be well adapted to England, except for the food.
“I miss Portuguese cuisine. It’s always good to eat the dishes at home and here it’s a little more complicated to try to find a place where the food is more similar to ours because they eat a lot based on fast food here.”
He’s one of the many Portuguese players, or players signed from the Portuguese league, in the Championship, and says they’ve all been in touch.
“I spoke with Krovi when we played against West Brom. I asked him if everything was going well, how the adaptation was going and if he was happy. It’s always good to know that our colleagues are doing well. I like to see the people we have a special affection to succeed. I also usually talk to João Carvalho and Tobias Figueiredo.”
Pedro Pereira has another friend in England, which is Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes. Even though the right-back came from Benfica and the midfielder used to play for city rivals Sporting, they used to be teammates at Italian side Sampdoria.
“When I scored the goal now he sent me a message,” said Pereira. “Bruno Fernandes is a good friend. We support each other and keep in touch. We spent a short time together in Sampdoria, but we always kept that friendship. I congratulated him when he moved to Manchester United.”
