Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey is ‘again a strong possibility’ for Sporting Club de Portugal as they look for a new right-back in the summer.

That’s according to A Bola, who say the Brighton man is one of the options the Portuguese side are looking at potentially signing.

They explain that with Hector Bellerin set to leave at the end of the season, once his loan deal comes to an end, the club are scouring the market for potential options.

Lamptey is someone that the club have had on their agenda for some time and he’s ‘well referenced’ because of that. Indeed, they tried to sign him in the January transfer window when Pedro Porro left for Tottenham.

Sporting have options in their current squad, but manager Ruben Amorim likes Lamptey and would be pleased to have him if he can.

The fact that he has not played for Brighton since the beginning of March, because he is recovering from a knee injury, does not dampen the Lions’ interest. They, though, are aware that the transfer will not be an easy one to pull off.

They have other options on their list, but the Brighton man is a player who is ‘much appreciated’ by the club’s sporting structure, who will move in the summer to convince him and Brighton into either a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Lamptey currently has a deal until 2025 and a market value of €15m and the Lions’ hope is that his lack of playing time, and an offer to change that drastically, as well as playing in the Europa League, can convince him to move.
