Arsenal summer signing Kai Havertz has insisted he is not concerned about his slow start to life at the club and is convinced he will get better.

The midfielder has been speaking at a press conference, covered by Sport 1, ahead of the international break where he is a part of the Germany squad.

He links up with his country after something of a difficult start to life at Arsenal, who he joined in a €75m deal from Chelsea at the beginning of July.

The move brought an end to something of a miserable spell with the Blues where, despite scoring a Champions League winning goal, he never hit the heights or developed into the player that many had expected him to become when he was shining with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

Arsenal was seen as a fresh start for him and a chance to get back on track, but it’s been a slow start to life at the club, with the midfielder so far looking out of place in Mikel Arteta’s re-imagined set up.

That’s led to plenty of criticism from fans and pundits alike, who have been left unconvinced by the German and questioned why Arsenal signed him this summer.

He’s aware of that discourse but isn’t concerned on a personal level, insisting things will get better once he’s fully adapted to life at his new club.

“Sure, things like that keep you busy,” he said.

“But I’ve often had a phase and that you often only see the negative. It’s not the first club where I’m starting over.

“Of course, you want to be successful as quickly as possible, but I know that there are phases like that. I try to approach it in a relaxed manner.”
