Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte this week has a feature with Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães, who told an interesting story about his recent holidays in Brazil.

The player revealed that last week, while in São Paulo, he watched Corinthians’ clash against Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores’ knock-out stage.

It’s obviously not strange to see a player watching a football match, but the great detail here is that Magalhães went as a regular fan, attending the match with a normal ticket.

“I was on vacation in Brazil, and it coincided with the date of the Libertadores round of 16. I took the opportunity to kill the nostalgia of watching a game as a fan, and in the midst of the organised crowd, to remember my childhood days,” Gabriel Magalhães told Globo Esporte. The defender recalled the time Corinthians were in the second division, in 2008, and explained he followed the club heavily at that point.

“I always liked going to the stadium when I was younger, and every game I asked my dad to take me. He always made an effort for us to be able to go to the games, most of them were at Pacaembu.”

Gabriel Magalhães is already working on his preseason preparations at Arsenal with his Brazilian namesakes Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

It’s quite interesting to see the defender showing his support for Corinthians like this, since that will certainly weigh in his favour when he decides to return to Brazil one day, especially if one of their local rivals become interested in signing him.
