Having drawn their home leg of the Champions League first knockout round against Manchester United 1-1, Diego Simeone will have wanted to have a full squad for the return leg at Old Trafford.

That, however, seems unlikely, with six players of his first-team squad currently out with injuries.

With Daniel Wass, Matheus Cunha and Koke already known injuries before the weekend, Stefan Savic and Geoffrey Kondogbia both ended up injured during Saturday’s game against Celta Vigo.

That took the tally up to five, but a sixth can now be added to the list, as the La Liga club announced that Mario Hermoso had been diagnosed with a right adductor injury, which could keep him out of the Manchester United game.

While there might be 13 days left before Atlético Madrid have to travel to Old Trafford, Mundo Deportivo explain this is ‘a new setback for Cholo’, whose ‘infirmary is filled at a key moment of the season’.

Hermoso will now ‘begin rehabilitation work and daily physiotherapy sessions’, with the injury’s evolution to be evaluated as the days go by, but it’s expected, as per the newspaper, that he will ‘miss the next games’ of the La Liga side, which could include the Manchester United clash.
