Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has insisted he does not regret his move to Chelsea, even if it did prove to be something of a disaster.
The striker has been speaking to Jijantes, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, regarding his career and his decision to leave Barcelona for Chelsea in September 2022.
The striker moved to Chelsea in a €12m deal at the end of the summer transfer window that year in something of a surprising move given he had only been at Barcelona since a free transfer from Arsenal in January that year.
He enjoyed his time thoroughly at Camp Nou, with 13 goals and one assist in 24 games, which was a fine return for someone who had arrived on a free.
He was unable to replicate his form at Chelsea, though, managing just three goals and one assist in 21 games before eventually leaving on a free transfer for Marseille in July last year.
His time in blue is seen as a failure by most but it seems Aubameyang doesn’t regret it despite his obvious struggles.
“Yes, in the end it was an economic problem, Barça needed an option to sell a player and I had this option,” he said.
“That’s why I left. If that wasn’t the case, I think I could have stayed a few more years. I have no regrets.
“It’s life, in the end we spent little time together, but it was very good, and the most important thing is the memory.”
