Manchester City may have found an agreement with Valentin Barco, but it seems there’s still a long way for them to reach a deal with Boca Juniors.

As reported by the Argentine media this week, the verbal understanding was only found with the player’s entourage, with representatives from the Premier League side now flying to Argentina to speak to the Buenos Aires club.

A couple of reports now show that Boca Juniors may not be very interested in the sale.

TNT Sports writes that even though Barco is only protected by a US$10m release clause, the club will try to meet his agents to check about the possibility of giving him a new contract and raise the clause.

Something similar is written by newspaper Olé, who talks about the discontentment from club president Juan Roman Riquelme regarding that small fee.

With the Boca Juniors chief claiming the clause is only that little because that was a request from the player’s entourage when they signed his last contract, it’s said the club already have a renewal ‘ready’ for him.

Barco is said to be one of the ‘fan favourites’, and they want to protect him better.

Olé wonders if that will go from US$10m to US$25m, and whether that could slow Manchester City’s attempt.
