Manchester United were reportedly the only club to send scouts to the Estádio da Luz last night, where Benfica won Paços de Ferreira 1-0.
On Friday, Portuguese newspapers are a little quieter regarding the defender’s transfer. No one seems to have updates, and A Bola insist that Manchester United’s alleged withdrawal did not get to Benfica’s ears.
Their stance is that Manchester United would be looking to lower the price and that’s all.
Benfica manager Rui Vitória was asked about the transfer after the game, but tried to escape from the questions by saying Lindelof was out due to a technical option.
He also confirmed that the player will be training today, and his departure is ‘the president’s business’.
The Portuguese media certainly haven’t given up on Lindelof moving to Manchester United, and feel the deal is still on, at some level anyway.
