Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund [PIF] confirmed the purchase of Newcastle United.
Since then, the Magpies have not only been linked to star players, but also big name managers. Last weekend, Gazzetta Dello Sport reported Antonio Conte is on their shortlist.
The ex-Chelsea manager is without a club since leaving Inter Milan and the Tyneside club planning to replace Steve Bruce with Conte is backed up by Calciomerctao.it.
As per the report, the Premier League side, who have plans to setup a ‘top-level’ squad, ‘aim for Antonio Conte’.
It’s even said ‘particular attention’ must be paid to Serie A, where the English club are said to have their focus on Juventus star Federico Chiesa.
The Turin club face ‘danger’ from Newcastle since there could a ‘possible proposal’ for the winger, similar to the one Chelsea offered to Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku.
In order to convince the Old Lady, the report adds ‘on the plate there could be no less than €115/120m’ from Newcastle. Juve, however, insist the Italy international ‘cannot be sold for any amount’.
Newcastle United ‘want to be big’, but they will not have it easy to sign Chiesa due to the tough stance maintained by Juventus.
This feels like a rumour based on circumstantial evidence, and even with the new found wealth at Newcastle, it’s unlikely the Italy international would want to leave Juventus, and Champions League football, for them.
