Three days ago, Sky Deutschland reported Borussia Dortmund officials rate Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham highly and have made contact with his camp.
Bild backs up the Bundesliga side’s interest in Bellingham and then provides the latest on this case.
BVB, via their scouts, have been monitoring the attacking midfielder’s performances for Sunderland and are now ‘getting serious’ with their efforts to sign him.
The German club had previously signed the 19-year-old’s brother, Jude Bellingham, from Birmingham City in 2020. The contacts between Dortmund and the player’s family ‘still exists, albeit sporadically’.
Jude impressed for Dortmund, who sold him for over €100m to Real Madrid in June 2023, and he went on to win the Champions League with them last season.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl and managing director Lars Ricken believe Jobe can have a similar impact as his brother, if they end up securing his services. He can use the Bundesliga side as an ‘ideal springboard’ to make a big jump in the future.
The report states the Black Cats are posing a ‘problem’ for them to complete the deal.
Jobe is currently valued at €12m, but the report notes Sunderland want €20m to sell the star. This is a problem for Dortmund, who don’t have enough funds for January, when they have to focus on other positions.
Bild claim BVB’s interest in the Sunderland player could ‘become really hot’ next summer.
