Liverpool have been linked to Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud several times in the last few months. It’s believed Liverpool tried signing the 20-year-old in the summer, but are ready to wait after an unsuccessful attempt.
Dahoud has a contract until 2018 at the Bundesliga club, and reportedly isn’t keen on extending it. Reports also suggest there is a release clause of €10m in Dahoud’s contract, but that can only be activated next summer.
Liverpool, however, should be prepared to face competition from Serie A giants Juventus, who are also very keen on signing the midfielder. Several other clubs in Europe are also reportedly interested in signing Dahoud, and Liverpool might have some convincing to do.
However, the chance of working under Jurgen Klopp could be very tempting for Dahoud, as the German manager has developed world class talents in recent years.
Last week it was reported in Germany that Dahoud was one of Klopp’s transfer targets as part of a ‘Meister-Plan’ he has to make Liverpool champions.
Gladbach general manager Max Eberl, also last week, has made it clear a summer transfer will be considered if there’s no renewal: “If the contract in the summer only has this one year remaining, you must automatically consider what has to be done. But today it’s pure speculation. Our desire is to prolong the contract, which is beyond question. So far this has not happened, but we are constantly talking.”
