Former Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia could sign for Championship side Wigan Athletic, reports Tutto Mercato Web.

Amelia is a free agent after his contract at Chelsea expired at the end of last season, and he reportedly has several options on his table, but interest from Wigan appears to be quite serious.

Wigan play their next game on Monday night against Huddersfield, but Amelia will only be eligible to play only if he is registered on Saturday. The Italian goalkeeper will train for the next 48 hours, before a final decision is taken.

Tutto Mercato Web suggest Amelia could sign a short term contract, or may have the provision to leave the club in January, should he sign for Wigan now.

It’s been reported the upcoming hours could be decisive, and it’d be interesting to see if Wigan decide to sort out a deal for Amelia quickly. Amelia failed to make a single appearance for Chelsea last season, after he was signed by Jose Mourinho.

The Italian goalkeeper has since been strongly linked with several clubs, with nothing coming of any proposed deal yet.
