West Ham United are seeking to end Adama Boiro’s loan deal in the January transfer window, after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Nuno Espirito Santo.

The left-back joined West Ham in the summer, signing on loan from Athletic Club. The deal includes an option for the Hammers to buy.

But he has barely featured for the Hammers since. To date he’s managed one appearance in the Championship, totalling 13 minutes. That came in the 3-0 win over Derby at the beginning of September.

He found himself on the bench for the next game, a win over Bolton, but has not been in West Ham’s squad since. And it seems everyone is now ready to call it quits. Sport Witness have already covered how his situation was causing concerns.

West Ham are done

Bilbao Hiria cover the 24-year-old today and say he has been ‘left in the cold’ at West Ham. They are not looking to terminate his loan deal.

13 minutes over two months have been enough for Nuno to deem him ‘surplus to requirements’ and now West Ham want him gone. They intend to terminate his loan deal in January if they can.

The issue is specifically with Espirito Santo, say the outlet. The player is not in his ‘good graces’ and he now prefers to play a centre-back – Morato – at left-back instead. Even with absences piling up, Boiro has not been given a chance.

Now they want rid, but there’s a problem. An early departure would require the player to return to Athletic. But there is no desire for him to return to Lezama.

They sent him out on loan in the summer because he was firmly not a part of their plans. That came after Johaneko Louis-Jean won the battle for the left-back spot in pre-season. Nothing has changed since for that pecking order to be changed.

So Boiro finds himself in a situation where neither West Ham nor Athletic want him. West Ham would need to convince the Spanish club into accepting the early termination.

The ideal situation would be for the player and his agents to find a new destination in January first. But there’s an issue there too. Under FIFA rules, players can only play for two clubs in a season.

Boiro has already played for Athletic against Barcelona in August. Then he played for West Ham against Derby. So, another move in the January transfer window looks unlikely based on that.

For now, it seems West Ham are simply looking to terminate the loan early. Whether they can, remains to be seen.
