Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has admitted he’s working hard to convince Sweden manager Graham Potter to hand him a start at the World Cup.

The Tottenham youngster could make history this summer and become one of his nation’s youngest ever World Cup players. But first he needs to fight for a place in the starting 11.
Sweden kick off their campaign against Tunisia on Monday. They then take on the Netherlands on June 20th before Japan six days later.
Bergvall is in contention to start after making a successful appearance in the qualifying final against Poland in March. And he admits he’s desperate to start and fulfil a childhood dream in the process.
“Of course, you’re ready and want to play all the time. But it’s up to the coach about who plays,” he said.
“It’s a dream I’ve had since I was little. To represent my country (in a championship).
“Of course, you always want to start and play. But I’m ready no matter what happens. Whether it’s starting or coming in. I’m incredibly excited about the World Cup.”
Convincing Potter
For now, though, the focus is on convincing Potter to hand him his chance. That’s something he’s focused on in the final days of build up to the tournament.
The Tottenham player has been speaking with the Sweden manager about how he sees his game. But he won’t disclose what’s been said between the two parties so far.
“It’s not something I want to say here about what discussions we’re having, but in general it’s just to continue with what I’m doing,” he added.
“It’s up to coach, Graham. But I’m ready. It’s hard to say. It’s up to Graham who will play with each other. I’m ready if I get the chance.”
