Back in November, Marco Conterio covered Newcastle United’s interest in AS Roma’s Manu Kone. Magpies have faded away from the scene and a bold claim has now emerged about Manchester United.

ASRomaLive have taken a close look at the France international, who has been key for Roma since last season.

Inter Milan tried to sign him in the summer. A move didn’t go through but the Nerazzurri remain potential suitors.

Journalist Francesca Teodori has confidently reported that Manchester United will sign the 24-year-old next summer.

She spoke to ASRomaLive’s Twitch channel and claimed: “It’s not news, but it’s a fairly credible rumour. I’ve been told by multiple sources that he’ll leave Roma in June and join Manchester United.”

Keen on transfer to Manchester United

Teodori then addressed assumptions that Joshua Zirkzee could be part of any deal.

“I don’t know if this has anything to do with the Zirkzee deal. He might have been included as a sort of counterpart. This remains to be seen, but what’s certain is that Kone is very keen on the destination and it looks like he could join United in June.”

Signing Koné could significantly improve Manchester United’s midfield options, with the area somewhat neglected in recent transfer windows. Casemiro is approaching his mid-30s and Manuel Ugarte has failed to meet the standards expected of him.

There are doubts about Kobbie Mainoo’s future too. Kone is quite similar to the Englishman in terms of skillset, with an ability to operate between the lines.

He is also at the right age and his profile has only grown since his time at Roma. That is why Kone could prove to be a very good opportunity for Manchester United, especially if a deal is done for the right amount.
