Wesley has impressed significantly at AS Roma, with the player now attracting interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.
The Giallorossi signed the wing-back in the summer of 2025, paying a €30m package for the Brazil international. Since then, he has become a key for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, having now become a left wing-back after starting on the right.
Previously, he had attracted interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola was believed to be a big fan of Wesley’s profile, with the player also a regular for the Brazil national team.
Now, more English clubs are in the race for him but a deal could be expensive.
Three way race growing
ASRomaLive cover the wing-back’s rise in the last 12 months or so, noting that he has captured everyone’s attention in Rome. The outlet clarify that Chelsea tried to sign Wesley in 2025 but his desire to play for Roma meant he stayed.
Now, Manchester United are keen on the player, with the Red Devils needing fullbacks. Newcastle United are keen, and now Arsenal are also muscling in.
Wesley’s valuation about a year ago was around €30m but his price has now doubled.
The three clubs will have to meet something around €60m, with Roma themselves having grown in stature under Gasperini. This puts them in a strong position, which is leading to all three clubs also looking at Monaco’s Vanderson, who is worth around €40m right now.
The Ligue 1 star is seen as a more accessible target, having become a regular for Brazil himself.
Our take: Wesley one of the best in his position
The fact that Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United like Wesley is no surprise. He is arguably one of the best players in his role in Europe and it is unfortunate he wasn’t able to play at the World Cup due to injury.
This season, he has been vital in the left wing-back role. He thrives when carrying the ball forward and has the ability to either stretch play or cut inside.
But the concern for the three clubs should be the fact that the 23-year-old is best as a wing-back. The full-back role may not suit Wesley, which can be a tactical dilemma for the suitors. This can also make Vanderson a more appealing target.
