Manu Kone has emerged as one of AS Roma’s most important players since last season. The midfielder is now attracting interest from Newcastle United.
This comes from Tuttomercatoweb‘s Marco Conterio, who takes a look at the Frenchman’s situation.
The journalist claims that in the summer, Inter Milan were keen on signing the 24-year-old. Roma decided to keep the midfielder. Now, Newcastle United are emerging as a suitor and have sent officials to watch the player.
Eddie Howe is believed to be in need for a midfielder. That is why Kone is among the ‘first names’ on the Magpies’ shortlist.
The Roma star’s name is said to have been mentioned during transfer meetings at Newcastle United.
So far though, the Giallorossi have been rejecting advances from the Tyneside club, who would be looking for a deal as early as January.
They are insistent on not letting Kone depart in January. They find themselves at the top of the table and do not want to lose any advantage in a potential title race.
Even if the player is flattered by interest from clubs, he is happy at the Italian giants. Roma could also soon hold a meeting with his entourage to discuss a new deal.
Conterio claims that Newcastle United are also interested in Lazio’s Matteo Guendouzi, who could be much more accessible.
While the report is confident about Kone’s situation, his stature is consistently rising. This could soon make him one of the most wanted midfielders in Europe. Roma might have to meet his ambitions soon or they could risk a departure.
