Everton‘s Adam Aznou is happy to make his debut for Málaga CF, and his focus now is to “get back into rhythm’, after overcoming fitness issues.

The Premier League side invested around €9m to sign the left-back from Bayern Munich in July 2025. He had a difficult debut season with the Toffees, making one appearance in their FA Cup defeat to Sunderland.

Despite contributing an assist, he didn’t feature for Everton until he came off the bench in the EFL Cup win over Preston North End in August.

Later that month, the Merseyside club sent him on loan to the La Liga side. The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in the goalless draw against UD Levante in September.

Everton man’s injury problem

The Spain-born Morocco international missed the next three league matches because of an injury. He was also struggling with a stomach bug.

Last month, Málaga manager Juan Francisco Funes said the 20-year-old was suffering from an ‘adductor muscle strain in his left leg’. This forced him to miss the international break.

The Everton owned player took advantage of this break to overcome illness and the injury problem. He has to compete with José Salinas for the left-back spot. On Friday, Salinas missed his side’s 1-1 league draw against Espanyol.

Funes started [right-back] Rafita Garrido on the left side of the defence. In the second half, Adam Aznou came on to replace right-back Carlos Puga, and Garrido then moved to his preferred role.

Everton player explains his next target

The fullback played 28 minutes on his debut for the Spanish club. After the match, he spoke to the reporters in the mixed zone and Radio Marca Málaga have relayed his comments.

When asked about his physical condition, he said: “Yes, the truth is I’m doing well. Well, little by little, I need to get back into rhythm, but that will come with time.”

On his feelings after making his debut, Adam Aznou explained: “Well, thank you very much. I really enjoyed it. I was very excited. I came on at a great moment because we were attacking and the fans were cheering.”

“And, well, we managed to scrape together a point, which really helped a lot. Thanks to the fans and all my teammates who fought until the end.”

“Incredible, really. The atmosphere, the fans cheering… I loved playing. Yes, it really was. I heard great things about the fans, about everyone, about what Málaga is like, and it’s exactly what I expected.”
